I've
been thinking about a few small things....small objects, old
photographs and bits & pieces of ideas that come and go. Most of these things
have occurred to me over a long period of time and never quite seemed
to work their way into other bodies of work. In some respects they
were little things idea wise that hadn't made their way in to my "conscious" thoughts.
Something told me to not to let go of these fragments of ideas and
beginnings of pieces. I tried to listen to what they were saying and
tried to be patient enough to hear what I needed to hear. Most of these
works are small in phyisical size but sometimes small things lead to
bigger ideas. In this group of work there are references to myths,
to marking time, to changing histories, to intersections of faith,
science and art and to transformation. In the field of Physics there
is a search for the unifying "Theory of Everything". It is
the one theory that would pull together all of the areas of knowledge
into one comprehensible idea about the "way the universe works".
I draw some parallels to that search in my work. I'm trying to pull
together little bits and pieces of ideas about "the meaning of
life, the universe and everything" (to borrow a quote from
a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy). I suspect my search will
not lead to one unifying theory in the end....for me, its all
about the searching.
